About Prophetic

Real estate development is a multi-billion-dollar industry that has run on fragmented data, manual processes, and gut instinct for decades. Prophetic is changing that. We're building the AI-native platform that enables homebuilders, developers, and investors to find, analyze, and act on land opportunities from a single system — powered by proprietary technologies that process billions of data points across all 50 states. We are the market leader in our space, and our customers don't just use the product — they love it. We're not making teams more efficient. We're changing how they operate.

Prophetic is scaling fast — demand is outpacing our ability to hire, and we're just getting started. This is a once-in-a-lifetime team: sharp, low ego, deeply collaborative, and obsessed with building the best product in the industry. Come disrupt an industry with us.

About the Role

Prophetic’s engineering team has scaled rapidly — from a small founding group to a growing organization of full stack engineers, research engineers, GIS engineers, mobile developers, and data specialists. Our CTO has been directly managing the team, but as we grow, we need an Engineering Manager to own the day-to-day leadership of the platform engineering team.

You’ll manage a team of senior and mid-level full stack engineers building across our core products — SearchAI, ZoneAI, SiteAI, DevMap, and DealDesk. Your job is to make the team more effective: running sprint cadences, removing blockers, conducting 1:1s, managing performance, coordinating cross-functional work with Product, and ensuring code quality and velocity stay high as we scale.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You should be technical enough to participate in architecture discussions, review PRs, and understand the codebase — but your primary impact will come from making the engineers around you better. You’ll partner closely with the CTO on hiring, team structure, and engineering culture. You’ll also work with our Head of Product to ensure engineering priorities align with the product roadmap and customer needs.

Our stack is Python/Django on the backend and TypeScript/React on the frontend, backed by Postgres with PostGIS for geospatial data, running on Google Cloud. The team uses AI tooling daily — Cursor, Claude Code, and Copilot are standard. We ship features every two to three weeks and our customers make million-dollar decisions on the platform, so quality and reliability matter as much as speed.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a team of full stack engineers — running 1:1s, performance reviews, career development conversations, and day-to-day team operations.
  • Own sprint planning, standup cadences, and retrospectives. Ensure work is well-scoped, engineers are unblocked, and commitments are met.
  • Partner with the Head of Product to translate roadmap priorities into engineering work — scoping, sequencing, and staffing projects effectively.
  • Drive engineering quality through code review processes, testing standards, and architecture discussions.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new engineers as the team continues to scale.
  • Manage cross-functional coordination between engineering, product, design, and customer-facing teams.
  • Build and improve engineering processes that support velocity without sacrificing quality — CI/CD, incident response, on-call rotation, and documentation standards.
  • Identify and address team health issues early — burnout, skill gaps, communication breakdowns, and capacity constraints.
  • Report on team velocity, delivery, and health to the CTO and leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, direct communication, and continuous improvement.

What You Need

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years of engineering management experience.
  • Track record of managing teams of 5–15 engineers in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Strong technical fluency — you can participate in architecture discussions, review code, and understand tradeoffs across a modern web stack.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and sprint-based delivery in production environments.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain strong engineering talent.
  • Strong communication skills — you can translate between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing cross-functional work with Product, Design, and customer-facing teams.
  • Comfort with AI tooling as part of daily engineering workflows.
  • High emotional intelligence — you lead with empathy, give direct feedback, and build trust quickly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python/Django and TypeScript/React or similar full stack environments.
  • Background in geospatial applications, data-intensive platforms, or proptech.
  • Experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup where you helped scale an engineering org from <20 to 50+ engineers.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience managing both on-site and remote engineering teams.

Why Prophetic

  • The team. Wide expertise, sharp, low ego, and genuinely fun to work with. We have each other's backs and we celebrate wins together.
  • Real ownership and impact from day one. Our customers make million-dollar decisions on our platform. Your work matters immediately.
  • AI-native product and AI-native workflows. Every team — engineering, sales, operations — runs on AI tooling daily.
  • Founder-led transparency. Leadership shares the financials, the strategy, and the hard calls with the whole team.
  • High growth, high demand. The product works, customers love it, and we are hiring to keep up. No shortage of opportunity here.
  • Flexibility. Remote, hybrid, or in-office with a great Portland, OR headquarters.
  • Self-starters who thrive in ambiguity. We're a startup. If you need someone to tell you what to do every morning, this isn't the place; if you come alive solving hard problems with smart people, it is.

How We Work

These four themes are how we think, build, and lead.

  • Truth — Say the hard thing. We speak plainly, flag problems early, and share what's actually going on.
  • Precision — Sign your name to it. Our customers make million-dollar decisions on our data. We get the details right.
  • Velocity — Speed compounds. Waiting doesn't. We ship daily and launch features every two to three weeks.
  • Ownership — Own it, then solve it. We own outcomes, not tasks. If something's broken, we fix it.

Prophetic is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
